Jerry Falwell Jr. praises Trump, tweets Playboy cover

Jerry Falwell, Jr., the son of renowned homophobic religious right leader, Jerry Falwell, tweeted a picture today with GOP presidential candidate Donald Trump.

Falwell introduced Trump today at a religious leader summit in New York City.

What Falwell didn’t realize is that he was tweeting a photo that included a Playboy magazine cover with Trump on it. I got the image below from Falwell’s Twitter feed.

This might seem like a small thing, but we’re talking Jerry freaking Falwell here. And we’re talking the religious right cozying up to someone like Trump, who has had three marriages to date, and his adherence to religion has also been questioned. This from the Daily Beast:

While pandering to evangelicals with a Liberty University speech, he infamously mispronounced a biblical reference as “Two Corinthians” instead of “Second Corinthians.”

Additionally, several times throughout Trump’s very public life, he’s been quoted as saying he doesn’t believe in heaven or hell—cornerstones of Christian theology; and has been described as “not a religious man.”

The top official from Trump’s own denomination has denounced the candidate. “Donald Trump’s views are not in keeping with the policies adopted by our church by deliberative process,” Presbyterian Church leader Gradye Parsons said.

Trump also had the nerve to criticize Hillary Clinton’s today, claiming that we know nothing of her faith. As the Daily Beast noted, that’s a bizarre claim:

She’s been in the public eye for years and years, and yet there’s no—there’s nothing out there,” Trump continued.

On the contrary, Clinton has long spoken of her Methodist faith and how it has inspired her years of public service and liberal beliefs.

Nevertheless, he suggested Clinton’s supposed lack of religiosity would lead to policies that should terrify evangelicals. “It’s going to be an extension of Obama but it’s going to be worse,” he warned, “because with Obama you had your guard up. With Hillary you don’t, and it’s going to be worse.”

So, on the one hand you have a woman who went into public service as a result of her faith. And on the other, you have a guy who keeps copies of Playboy in his office. You decide who’s more religious.

Oh, please don’t get your knickers in a bunch Christians. Be more concerned with the pedophilia in your midst, the various abuses of homeschoolers, the pervert pastors and the concealment of crime in your religious groups. Don’t lose it over an attractive center-fold, although, the dumpier your “modest” dresses, the more your god-loving husbands are going to sneak themselves a peek of the good old PB rag when they get the chance. They’re men. Men like attractive women. No amount of praying is going to make that go away. In fact, it might make it more pronounced.

They are all creatures from the scum on the bottom of the latrine! Christians today swim in that scum.

In the photo, Trump’s smile is weirdly fake. It reminds me of Donald Rumsfeld’s fake smile when he had to face the cameras after Abu Ghraib.

Jerry has been bought and paid for! He is snuggled in bed with Donny. Great example for the Christian youth in America! Way to go son of a preacher man!

And they get the added bonus of “forgiving” the sinner.

That’s true for all but a few, but they’re the most dangerous of the lot who enjoy impending torture and murder becasue of their insane beliefs.

That’s even more true of every major politician in the DP and the RP.

It is bizarre how so many religious right people embrace Trump as one of their own, when he is so obviously not religious, much less a bible-thumping far right Christian.

I can only suppose it is a result of their simplistic binary worldview: they “reason” that Clinton is Bad, so necessarily Trump must be Good.

  9. Bill_Perdue says:

Both candidates have distorted views and personalities because they embrace cultist superstitions. a flaw they share with most corrupt politicians and all the leaders of cults. That eases their slide into total hypocrisy and their mutual race to the bottom.

Trumps ‘faith’ is obviously more fakery – he worships mammon and nothing else. In fact his worship of wealth drives his egomania and boorishness. “On first blush, many Americans would think any connection between Donald Trump and the religious right would be non-existent. After all, Trump has made it very clear that he is not a religious person and the idea of conservative Christians embracing the mean-spirited billionaire would seem remote at best. However, Trump garners more support from the religious right than his competition. In fact, despite what conventional wisdom dictates, the religious right is solidly behind Donald Trump; a man anyone would call a “casual or convenient Christian.”“

Clinton’s superstitious beliefs also distort her politics and her drive for accumulating money and power. ”You can find all about it in a widely under-read article in the September 2007 issue of Mother Jones, in which Kathryn Joyce and Jeff Sharlet reported that “through all of her years in Washington, Clinton has been an active participant in conservative Bible study and prayer circles that are part of a secretive Capitol Hill group known as the “Fellowship,” aka The Family. But it won’t be a secret much longer. Jeff Sharlet’s shocking exposé, The Family: The Secret Fundamentalism at the Heart of American Power will be published in May…. At the heart of the Family’s American branch is a collection of powerful rightwing politicos, who include, or have included, Sam Brownback, Ed Meese, John Ashcroft, James Inhofe, and Rick Santorum.”

Gore Vidal figured it out. “There is only one party in the United States, the Property Party … and it has two right wings: Republican and Democrat. Republicans are a bit stupider, more rigid, more doctrinaire in their laissez-faire capitalism than the Democrats, who are cuter, prettier, a bit more corrupt — until recently … and more willing than the Republicans to make small adjustments when the poor, the black, the anti-imperialists get out of hand. But, essentially, there is no difference between the two parties.”

On November 8, 2016 vote Socialist or Labor, vote for good referendums and if there aren’t any Left candidates write in Chelsea Manning or join the majority in sitting it out.

Don’t think he’s capable of another one.

That’s why nobody ever questions Trump’s faith. That would be unamerican.

    In America nobody questions money.

The sinners need to be punished. Pain and blood will wash the sins away. They are not supposed to enjoy it!

But we all know that everybody just buys the Playboy magazine for the articles. They are supposedly excellent, or so I heard …

  14. Baal says:

It would be interesting to know the extent and nature of the pornography collection that the Falwells amassed. Who would be surprised if it was massive and freaky as shit?

So what are Jerry Falwell, Jr.’s core beliefs? What are his core values? My guess they are money and power.

So, two Corinthians walk into a bar, and one says to the other, “Pride goeth before a Falwell.”

  19. Sally says:

The GOP seems to see three marriages as proof of manliness: Gingrich, McCain, Trump. Meanwhile, they vilify a woman who’s been married for 40 years and had her child IN wedlock. They adore Palin, who has yet to have a grandchild born to married parents, and whose son was born seven months after her own marriage. They are surely not practicing what they preach.

  20. keirmeister says:

Funny, you would think such devout Christians would understand the concept of a charlatan or false prophet.

  21. Pollos Hermanos says:

It would have been even funnier if Falwell had tweeted his dad’s Hustler issue.
