Trump releases attack video with fake Hillary quote

Republican presidential nominee Donald Trump released a video that “falsifies,” as CBS put it, Hillary Clinton’s position on raising taxes on the middle class.

Hillary said this week that she will not raise taxes on the middle class.

So Trump put out a video “quoting” Hillary as saying she “will” be raising taxes on the middle class. It’s an outright lie — Hillary said the opposite in her speech.

And it’s a lie that has been called out by both CBS and Politifact.

Here’s CBS:

And here’s Politifact:

This is really quite bad, even for Trump. While it’s one thing to stretch the truth in political campaigns, it’s quote another to make up a fake quote from your opponent.

At the rally earlier this week, Hillary told the crowd: “we aren’t going to raise taxes on the middle class.” Right-wing activists tried to claim that Hillary didn’t say the “aren’t.” Of course, the video shows she did, and even the prepared remarks of her speech show the “aren’t” is in the speech.

But as if that weren’t enough, Politifact, an independent fact-checker, had an expert do an electronic analysis of the speech to prove that Hillary said “aren’t.”

Nonetheless, the Trump campaign is desperate after weeks of implosions, from Donald Trump’s incessant attacks on a Gold Star family to his recent fixation on a crying baby. And desperation in Trump-land tends to lead to lies, especially when Trump himself has a long-proven inability to tell the truth.

Still, this is pretty bad by any standard.

Without facts, you really shouldn’t have. Restating your opinion is not a rebuttal of my assertion.

The interesting part is, Japanese prime minister Shinzo Abe has been quite vocal in suggesting that Japan re-think the pacifist stance written into their Constitution, so that they can be less reliant on the US. With the continuing problems between American servicemen and the population of Okinawa, there is an ever growing movement to have the US withdraw their presence from Japanese territory.

It’s easy to vilify a strawman. Trump has all the best propaganda words.

The right wing scandal factory has been outright lying about her for many years so he’s just carrying on the tradition. Funny how now cable news is getting the courage to point it out.

The wingnuts in general do not do these things in order to win over Americans. They are merely pushing more hate dope to the tribe. Trump knows this. He is just not as smooth.

Trump’s favorite targets for demonization here in the U.S. are African-Americans (e.g., Black Lives Matter) and mixed-race Mexicans. His favorite targets for demonization abroad are China and Japan, nonwhite nations. I’m surprised Trump hasn’t cracked any jokes yet about slanted eyes. Russia, of course, is a white nation, so it escapes criticism entirely. Trump’s campaign theme is nothing if not consistent: everyone who is not of entirely European descent is the enemy. Very similar to the Know Nothing Party of the mid-19th century.

Let’s admit the truth – Trump is not playing with a full deck of cards. Something is mentally wrong with him. He is a pathological liar and serial BS’er who thinks by telling lies, or claims he saw or heard something somewhere, he hopes enough people will believe him or will be too stupid to question it.

Whether proclaiming Obama was born in Kenya, or seeing thousands of Muslims in the US celebrating 9/11, or his supposed close vs. non-existent relationship with Vladimir Putin, or linking Ted Cruz’s father to Kennedy’s assassination, or about the Iran ransom plane delivering money, it’s always one embellished lie after another with him.

It’s time Republicans admit the truth about their candidate – Trump is unfit to be President. And no amount of lying to the American people is going to change that fact!

Meanwhile today, Trump decided it would be appropriate on the 71st anniversary of the nuclear bombing of Hiroshima to complain yet again that Japan isn’t paying the U.S. enough protection money and that they should have a big armed forces and send them all over the planet, contrary to the Constitutional provisions they agreed to as part of the WW2 surrender terms.

He even made some bizarre borderline racist remark about the Japanese “staying home to watch their Sony TVs” if the U.S. was attacked.

  12. Sally says:

You watch that? Middle aged, wealthy, educated white men acting like backwoods hicks to add to their million dollar bank accounts?

  13. Sally says:

I shouldn’t even bother, but there was no ‘fixed primary.’

  14. goulo says:

Sort of reminds me of the Texas governor debate long ago when Ann Richardson said something about how the government has no business determining “whether or why a woman has an abortion”, but many misheard it as “whether a white woman has an abortion”.

Of course it quickly became clear to all that it was just a matter of some people mishearing what she said, and I don’t recall any opposition blatantly lying about it and making ads claiming that she really said “whether a white woman has an abortion”… unlike the Trump team, who know well that they are blatantly lying in this “are/aren’t” case…

  15. SnorkleFrinkerbean says:

tRump used his smash-mouth rhetoric to thresh the Rep. crop and is left with the ignorant, gullible chaff. He really thinks the same stupid, divisive, incitant, lying tactics are going to continue to grow his support. Stupid tRump!

  16. Victoria Kugler says:

It is easy to change a video tape by clipping out one syllable but it sure makes you look stupid when the rest of the world knows what was really said. Donald is such a loser.

  17. Zen Bbq says:

As opposed to fixing the primary, you mean?

  18. LStoll says:

I saw the video, she said it. I am sure it was a mistake, but she def said it. Stop lying for Clinton Cash

  19. Mt2day says:

That’s why Hillary uses actual video of Trump saying horrible things.

  20. Jeff Ryan says:

God these people are vile. They’re not even being cute about it.

  21. goulo says:

That’s setting the bar for fun extremely low. :)

  22. Glen Thompson says:

More fun than watching Duck Dynasty.
