Donald Trump’s mass deportation timeline is logistically and morally insane

Donald Trump expanded on his plan to deport eleven million undocumented immigrants — perhaps along with their family members who have citizenship — in a call with supporters and journalists last night. According to Trump, who has previously said that he will get Mexico to pay for a big, beautiful wall with a big, beautiful door separating us from our southern neighbor, he can round up and kick out every last one of the people in our country illegally in anywhere from 18 months to two years:

To put that in perspective, that’s between 458,000 and 611,000 deportations per month. Trump is essentially saying that it is not only possible but necessary to take the equivalent of the population of Boston and forcibly remove them the country. Or, put another way:

In the entire year of 2013, the Obama administration oversaw a record 438,000 deportations. Trump wants to multiply that by twelve. At least.

Let’s be clear: You don’t get from point A to point B on this plan with “management.” Baked into Trump’s assertion that he can execute this plan in, at most, two years if it’s “properly handled” is nothing less than the transformation of the United States into a dystopian police state, with the racial profiling, disregard for privacy rights, nighttime police raids and generalized paranoia to match. And even then, comprehensive mass deportation would still be a logistical impossibility.

What’s more, the plan is estimated to cost (because someone bothered to crunch the numbers on your angry uncle’s wet dream) upwards of 166 BILLION dollars, so in the obvious scenario in which Congress tells Donald Trump that his mass deportation plan has about as good a chance of passing as he has of playing striker for Cruz Azul, he won’t be able to self-fund the venture.

But for Trump’s supporters, none of these “facts” or “political realities” or “moral disasters” matter.

Bear in mind that, for many of Trump’s supporters — and many Americans — being president is thought to be an awful lot like being the boss on The Apprentice. They think the president sits in a room, barks out tasks, evaluates performance and fires the right people for the right reasons when things go south. Coincidentally, this is also the version of Donald Trump they most closely associate him with — not his failed casino ventures or whites-only apartments. So when Trump says that he’ll hire “incredible people” and manage them well enough to accomplish impossible goals, that makes perfect sense to an alarming number of people.

Even if there’s nothing there behind the overt white nationalism and bloviation.

The illegals have been given a free ride by Obama and have become unbelievably emboldened. Contrary to the media’s portrayal, they are a highly cunning and manipulative population. 16. K Brown says:

Trump’s deportation policy is logistically impossible. You can’t deport 30 million people in 18 months. And there is no way to rid the country of all of them. But you can deport most of them…and it’ll take 6-10 years to accomplish that. First you resume workplace raids, which is always effective, since most illegal aliens have to go to work. The second part is have ICE deployed outside the social service centers(welfare office) and require proof of legal residency when people apply for benefits. If they cannot furnish the necessary documents then the feds can take custody of them. Third, employ the same methods at colleges, where you are more likely to encounter DREAMERS and folks like that. Finally, expand the program called “voluntary departure”, which allows people who’ve admitted to wrong doing to leave in lieu of deportation. This plan is less glamorous but a lot more effective if carried out.

  30. flattaxman says:

    IT’S absolutely nonsense to even
believe that both political parties are honest about the illegal alien invasion?
The statistics from the Census is as corrupt as this Administration, with the fudged
population numbers just repeated lies. The once great state of California is now a tarnished
replica of its once golden day’s, as they say legal and illegal aliens are now
the majority over citizens. Since Obama took office nobody has told the truth
about the incursion, which attributes to why Donald Trump has escalated to the
top of the polls? What Mr. Trump said in his commencement speech was the truth and
has not been stifled by the asinine ‘Political correct policing that usually
silences the less plucky politician in the lower pecking order. It is the same
with any personages or public speaker, excluding a few who dare to speak out on
    any issue?

It is my suggestion although it looks
on the outside quite honest, there are calculated goings-on; off the record in jamming
terrible bills down the throats of the American people who in reality know
nothing and except every issue as good law.
However I feel there is so much connivance between the parties, to
maintain their power, they will vote in any amendment so they can get the thing
passed. Such as it is with the Obama’s
illegal alien amnesty that thankfully is being suspended from action in the
courts? Republican speaker John Boehner has more or less accepted this amnesty
by funding it as the main issue, because the alternative is closing down the
government. We have nothing but spineless Republican politicians who are in
Congress to collect their salaries, benefits and retirement, while the
population suffers from supporting every person who crosses our open borders.

What Trump did not tell the American people
was this, that these illegal newcomers are not the best and brightest, as they are
the deprived, uneducated and some are disease-ridden from Mexico, Central and South America. There need is great
and survival benefits are plentiful, which this government hands out to
everyone who enters our nation. Then combine all of the gang members, M-13 as
an example that has been allowed to pass through our open borders. The
courageous job the US Border Patrol in the last 5 years of the Obama government
has seen millions arriving, as his authority has delivered a shocking blow only
to process if caught and let free to appear in court of their own recognizance—which few illegal aliens ever do? These
are only the foreigners that are located through the apprehensions, but others
slip past the border through the hundreds of miles of nothing but areas of
private land, or government areas where the agents must get permission from the
Bureau of Land Management or other agencies.

Ask the land owners who must carry
guns, evident that they are not safe on their own property. Forget the wild
creatures, there are far worst human animals carrying drugs to our children.

They are siphoning off this country’s
health care, housing and education system. 50 percent of the illegal aliens who
are here are on welfare, 76 percent of pregnant foreigners with children are
taking our tax dollars, by using the “Anchor Baby” birthright citizenship amendment.
It is NOT up to Obama to have an open welfare system, but Congress? Worst still
is ‘Sanctuary City’ ordinances, which literary ignores federal detention laws
and dumps murderous criminals back into the dark alleys of any-town, ready to
commit another felony. Usually murders of heinous crimes by illegal aliens are
kept quiet by the Leftist press, but the murder of Kathryn Steinle 32 on july 1
brought the who hidden world of insidious havens for illegal alien criminals
back into public focus. But the House and Senate are doing nothing,
which is the usual situation. Hand sitting is no longer applicable—pass ‘Kates
Law”—don’t let it fade away. Finally we have a tough American who cannot be
intimidated, bought by the lobbyists, who are like permanent residents
themselves crowding and harassing legislators. Trump knows who the pushy
lobbyists are and has turned them away, with their pockets of cash. Unlike
Trump Jeb Bush, Hillary Clinton is probably right in the faces of the retinue,
who are in the chambers on behalf of the wealthy corporate donors.

    I have
read about the layoffs at Disney and at other companies, including the Southern
California Edison power utility that are raising new questions about how
businesses and outsourcing companies are using the temporary visas, known as
H-1B, to place immigrants in technology jobs in the United States. These H-1B visas
are at the center of a severe debate in Congress over whether they accompaniment
American workers or displace them. What is not justifiable is an Indian worker
in one American company can take the jobs of US labor being displaced; that this company
in question can restrain severance pay, unless they train these new arrivals.
To me this is disgraceful and anti-American and both the Democrats and
Republicans will pay dearly for this when Trump sits behind that desk in Washington.

    H-1B visas
are intended for foreigners with advanced science or computer skills to fill
positions when US workers with those skills cannot be located.
Federal guidelines say, that foreign workers should not “adversely affect the
wages and working conditions” of Americans. However, there are so many
intentional loopholes, in its operation companies do not have to recruit
American workers first or guarantee that Americans will not be displaced, which
with a line of attorneys in corporate pay, the whole thing is a travesty. These
visas are being utilized to convey in legal immigrants to do the work of
Americans for far less money, with
American workers intimidated to train their replacements.

will be so many changes in Congress, especially the growing threat of cheap
labor and illegal aliens voting in our ‘citizens only’ elections on any level
    of government.

As a last resort career politician
Bobby Jindal, governor of Louisiana tried yesterday in attacking Donald trump ambition to be President. I
would suggest he is a political scapegoat pressed on by GOP establishment, to
try and undermine Trumps temperament. But most voters for the man know that
nothing will even penetrate his tough hide. Jindal is sinking in the polls, so
it was his last claim to prestige and who knows if he wasn’t intimidated by the
upper status class behind closed shutters?

I have been more or less been told shut up about the operation of major
MANDATORY E-VERIFY commitment. Trump has seen through this worthless
administration and hopefully reads that “OPTIONAL” E-Verify has no enforcement
behind its mechanism—but mandated E-Verify will? It certainly wasn’t Trumps people, but the
fact is business owners of any category do not want to be told, who they can
hire and who they cannot? Under a potential new federal law constrains of an
appointed E-Verify, employers will be constantly checked or a whistle blower a
spy who works for a company will inform (ICE) agents that illegal aliens
(presently and new hires) would be apprehended along with the employer who
should not be shielded from huge fines, license business suspension or a time
in federal jail. Employers would soon learn not to think you are above this obligatory

    Illegal immigration will be the
foremost issue from now until 2016, because it negatively influences every
black, white, Hispanic, Latino, Asian and every other American and lawful
resident minority and the ‘why’ is because we pay for it all. Both parties are
to blame for this growing issue. Democrats because they have given full
authority to King Obama run the country as he sees fit, and Republicans as they
has failed to cut off funds for the millions of illegal aliens. It doesn’t
compute to my family and circle of friends that this government thinks I want
my overtaxed dollars to financial support ever increasing flow of people to
settle here. My heart first must go out to our impoverished, not the rest of
the global poor? America has limits like never before? We have to think about our citizens and
those who legally come here and fallen on hard times, not the majority of the
world, who hate us because of the freedoms we have left.

  36. FLL says:

A further thought. The government doesn’t know where all these 11 million undocumented immigrants live and work, so the deportation of 11 million would involve military-style raids on random businesses and door-to-door searches in random Hispanic neighborhoods. Where does Trump think he’s going to get all the search warrants necessary to meet his quota of about half a million deportations per month? Or is he thinking of altogether scrapping our constitutional protections against illegal search, imprisonment and seizure of property? Becca’s use of the term fascist looks more and more accurate, depending on what Trump really has in mind with his deportation scheme. The details of all this will certainly be fair game in presidential debates, and American voters need to take a good look at those details.

  37. Teddy Flyfisher Davis says:

If he becomes POTUS, then I should be able to walk to the moon…It AIN’T gonna happen.

  38. Bill_Perdue says:

Trump is a right wing buffoon with an authoritarian streak and limitless political ignorance. He’s an extreme racist, a rabid misogynist and a union hater. Trump is defined by his party just as much as BS and HRH HRC are defined by theirs.

There is no fascist mass movement in this country and he’s not creating one. There have always been a lot of racists in this country and he’s organizing the racists who identify with his party. At the same time, by undercutting efforts to turn back the decision by the Supremes on marriage he’s losing ground among the religious right. Gallup reports that “The results show that Trump does not, in fact, receive high levels of support from highly religious Republicans. His net favorable rating is 12th in the list of 17 GOP candidates among highly religious Republicans.” Like Obama, he’s rebranding.

Other racists embrace Obama, a racist who destroyed the lives and families of over two million immigrant workers by deporting them and who engages in arbitrary, racist murders of Arab Americans. Both parties endorse the idea of long waiting periods tied to low paying jobs, fines and fees. Both parties refuse to order the mass arrest and prosecution of racist and violent cops. Both engage in racist wars of aggression.

But neither party, simply on account of it’s racism, is a fascist party. Every four years Democrats begin to suggest that Republicans and fascists. That’s election year hyperbole. Those charges and countercharges by both right wing parties are moot given the proven and demonstrated facts that the US is not a democracy and that elections have virtually no impact on policy.

Like the Democrat party, the Republican party is right centrist. They’re both anti-union, both encourage and enable racist wars of aggression, and both attack the Bill of Rights. We will see, as millions radicalize and turn hard left, the growth of massive fascist movement but that hasn’t occurred yet. When it does the stench will be unavoidable.

  39. BeccaM says:

Yeah, I thought Greg Greene’s tweet up there was especially apropos. But Jon has the right of it, too: Mass deportations would be logistically and morally insane. And have a pretty good chance of crashing the U.S. economy.

  40. FLL says:

And that means that Trump’s cost estimate may not even be honest. Trump’s plan would damage the economy; it would also damage the country’s international reputation during a time when the world is trying to solve refugee crises like the one in Syria, not create another refugee crisis in the U.S. and Mexico.

  41. Indigo says:

    A fascist Charlie Chaplin?

  42. BeccaM says:

And after he showed up, I stopped using that word lightly.

  43. BeccaM says:

Yeah, but let’s not forget: The Cheneyites flat out lied about how much the war would cost and then charged for it off-budget.

  44. FLL says:

Math fun. Let’s crunch some more numbers. The common estimate for the cost of the Iraq War is 1.7 trillion dollars over a period of 8 years. At that rate, the Iran War cost about 318 billion dollars during an 18-month period, the same amount of time that Trump is suggesting. So Trump’s proposal would cost about half as much as the flipping Iraq War for an 18-month period. Try selling that to the American public. Suerte… bonne chance… good luck.
