Carly Fiorina, who is totally running for president, is available for paid speaking gigs on the side

It’s going to be particularly ironic to hear Carly Fiorina go after Hillary Clinton’s speaking fees at tomorrow night’s Republican debate.

As the Wall Street Journal reported earlier today, Leading Authorities, a speaking firm that represents Fiorina, sent an email to prospective clients letting them know, “privately,” that the former CEO of Hewlett-Packard is available for paid speaking appearances despite still being an active candidate for president. As the email reads (emphasis in the original):

I wanted to send you a quick, private note about Carly Fiorina. Though she maintains an active campaign calendar, she has limited availability for speaking engagements.

We don’t advertise Carlyon the Leading Authorities website, but if you have an interest in booking her for an upcoming meeting or event, please let me know and I’d be happy to share her availability and fees.

A spokeswoman for Fiorina’s campaign said that the candidate has not accepted any new paid speaking engagements since starting her campaign, nor does she plan to.

As the Journal noted, Fiorina isn’t the only 2016 Republican candidate to mix business with public service. Ben Carson is currently in the middle of a self-imposed suspension of his campaign in order to avoid potential conflicts with his book tour.

That said, Carson was at least up front about the fact that he is taking time off from the campaign trail to hawk books — a fact that hasn’t kept him from rocketing to within striking distance of Donald Trump in Republican primary polling. That Fiorina is trying to keep her speaking engagements off-the-books is particularly telling.

Although, come on: did Leading Authorities really expect a blast email to prospective clients about a presidential candidate trying to make some quick cash on the side to stay “private” just because they put it in italics? That isn’t how PR works, and that sure as hell isn’t how presidential politics work. That email was bound to come out; the only question was who was going to do the leaking.

Perhaps it’s worth noting in this context that Carly Fiorina isn’t really running a presidential campaign, per se. Most of the functions that you would normally expect a candidate’s campaign committee to undertake have instead fallen on her super PAC, which doesn’t even try particularly hard to hide that fact. She has had limited rallies or other earned media events outside of the Republican primary debates, and has suffered in the polls because of it.

In short, Fiorina is running to say she’s running, which in turn raises her speaking fee. Unfortunately for her, this leak comes just one day before her next (and possibly last) chance to raise her profile at the Republican primary debate in Boulder, Colorado.

Wonderful! Mr. Haney! But you missed Snidely Whiplash.

After she speaks, she fires the help and stiffs them for their pay. She passes the savings right on to herself.

Boy, I am disappointed in the Republicans.

They used to be highly skilled at cloak-and-dagger stuff, but lately it seems like they want to get caught. This spam from Leading Authorities was guaranteed to go public. Today we also learned that another Republican wants to stop any discussion on immigration reforms because those people vote. Of course they spilled the beans about the Benghazi hearings as well.

Nixon must be rolling over in his grave, and Cheney must be shaking his head. They at least knew how to be hopelessly crooked and yet still hold to the bullshit party line. These guys can’t seem to help themselves.

Piss-poor excuses for proper criminals, these modern Republicans are. Although this is entertaining, I still feel cheated that I’m not getting a better show. Classic Republicans were into the heavy “Spy vs. Spy” stuff, today’s Republicans are more like grifters in the mold of Mr. Haney from Green Acres.

Carly Fiorina is not up to the task of being truly sneaky like her predecessors, in spite of her damn near ruining HP and getting a golden parachute for doing so. She’s just another low-level grifter like the rest of them.

Plus she became obscenely wealthy while failing miserably in business, which is something every incompetent dink dreams of having happen to them.

Addicts always need a fix, and seldom care from where it comes. Misogynists love her, She is superbly hate-able so their real emotions are feed and since She is a She they can claim to respect Women

Who wants to pay to hear lies?

Translation: Nobody cares right now to pay to hear what Carly Fiorina has to say. Quite possibly out of fear she’ll use the speaking opportunity to screech and spit about the graphic miscarriage videos she imagines she’s seeing on continuous loop inside her head.

  13. Indigo says:

“Limited availability” is business-speak for “make an offer we can’t resist.” It’ll work for a month or so. By then, her numbers will be low enough that her “availability” will become not quite so “limited.”
