Trump’s racist attack on mom and dad of fallen US soldier Khan

Republican presidential nominee Donald Trump today issued a racist attack against the mother and father of a fallen US service member.

U.S. Army Capt. Humayun Khan, who was a Muslim, was killed by a car bomb in Iraq.

Khan’s father gave an emotional speech about patriotism at the Democratic convention this week, in which he denounced Trump for his racist comments about deporting American Muslims. He noted that his son would never have been able to serve under a Trump presidency:

“Go look at the graves of brave patriots who died defending the United States of America. You will see all faiths, genders and ethnicities. You have sacrificed nothing and no one.”

Khan’s father went on to ask Mr. Trump if he’d ever read the US Constitution, and then pulled out his own miniature copy from his pocket and offered to lend it to Trump. You can find the full text of Mr. Khan’s full speech below.

Khan’s mother, wearing a head scarf, stood by his father’s side, but did not speak. She explained later that she is still grieving from the death of her son, and finds it too painful to talk about.

Trump today responded by suggesting that he too has “sacrificed,” just like the Khan family, by creating “thousands and thousands of jobs” and by building “great structures.”

“I think I’ve made a lot of sacrifices. I work very, very hard. I’ve created thousands and thousands of jobs, tens of thousands of jobs, built great structures. I’ve had tremendous success. I think I’ve done a lot.”

Trump went on to question whether Mr. Khan had even written his speech at all. In fact, Khan not only wrote the speech, he recited it from memory, with no notes, and no teleprompter. Khan didn’t even provide a version to the DNC before the event.

And then, to put the final icing on the cake, Trump made a racist remark about Mrs. Khan, the mother of the fallen soldier, suggesting that she was silenced by her husband, presumably because they’re Muslim:

“If you look at his wife, she was standing there. She had nothing to say. She probably, maybe she wasn’t allowed to have anything to say. You tell me.”

As the mother explained later, she still has a difficult time talking about her dead son. But of course, Trump assumed the worst, it had to because the mother was a Muslim.

Here’s the moving speech, and below is the full text:

Here is Mr. Khan’s speech in full:

Tonight, we are honored to stand here as the parents of Captain Humayun Khan, and as patriotic American Muslims with undivided loyalty to our country.

Like many immigrants, we came to this country empty-handed. We believed in American democracy – that with hard work and the goodness of this country, we could share in and contribute to its blessings.

khan-arlington-cemeteryWe were blessed to raise our three sons in a nation where they were free to be themselves and follow their dreams.

Our son, Humayun, had dreams of being a military lawyer. But he put those dreams aside the day he sacrificed his life to save his fellow soldiers.

Hillary Clinton was right when she called my son “the best of America.

If it was up to Donald Trump, he never would have been in America. Donald Trump consistently smears the character of Muslims.

He [Trump] disrespects other minorities, women, judges, even his own party leadership. He vows to build walls and ban us from this country.

Donald Trump, you are asking Americans to trust you with our future. Let me ask you: Have you even read the US constitution? I will gladly lend you my copy. In this document, look for the words liberty and equal protection of law.

Have you ever been to Arlington Cemetery? Go look at the graves of the brave patriots who died defending America – you will see all faiths, genders, and ethnicities.

You have sacrificed nothing and no one.

We can’t solve our problems by building walls and sowing division. We are stronger together. And we will keep getting stronger when Hillary Clinton becomes our next President.

Yes the rich can sacrifice. Of course they all served, my point exactly. I made no remark in hatred only in truth. The stupidity and hatred are your department. Many of my brothers died serving my country and I would never disgrace their service you asshole. Never. Meanwhile, I don’t intend to stand around while some limp dick tries to misdirect and lie about the truth. His son died twelve years ago – he has since gotten fat selling the people who killed his son green cards for half-a-million each – Bush, Clinton, and Obama have all banned Muslims repeatedly – the US Constitution concerns naturalization not immigration – and most importantly – there was no ISIS. In other words it was a purely asinine political speech by a man with no honor.

Yes I sacrificed. That’s why I cant walk today. Speaking of stupid , you should keep your hatred to yourself. Capt. Kahn died serving this country you moron. THAT makes him my brother. And yes , Kennedy sacrificed , Roosevelt could not , Johnson served , and if you don’t know about Washington you are even more stupid than your comments would suggest.

  3. BobRohner says:

What a stupid remark. Trump made no such comparison. He was asked what sacrifices he made to the USA and responded. Entirely different thing. As a veteran myself I find this Khan to be the lowest form of asshole ever, His son died twelve years ago when there was no ISIS, when Al Quada was busy chopping of the heads of American citizens, and this jerk is being paid to make political statements using his dead son. His son died fighting Muslim terrorists,( hero ). Meanwhile, Daddy Khan has made himself rich selling green cards to anyone with half a million dollars to spare ( asshole ). Did you ever sacrifice Colin? Is it possible that the rich cannot sacrifice? Did Kennedy or Roosevelt or Johnson or Washington manage to sacrifice?

Money. Lots of it. In bankruptcy proceedings.

  6. Colin says:

When a cold , completely self driven soft palm one percenter gets up and compares his from birth advantages with the ultimate sacrifice of a young serviceman , then it should be clear to anyone that this is no longer the country we think it is or should be. The rabid rightwing propaganda machine has worked very well just as it has in ages past. As a veteran it makes me want to vomit. As an American , it breaks my heart.

That’s the sort of thing that Trump’s base loves to hear. The thought of having him for President is horrifying. But what is sad is the amount of people who follow him.

How is working hard and creating jobs a sacrifice? What did he loose?

  12. Houndentenor says:

Sadly I don’t think anyone who would ever vote for Trump will find this the least bit objectionable. (I would be pleased to be proven wrong about that, btw.)

I wonder what percentage of his created jobs are in the USA?

  16. Jason Johnson says:

When you think he’s gotten so far into the gutter he won’t get lower, he goes off and desecrates the parents of a true American Hero, something he will never be called. Building crap and ripping off tenants with absurdly high rent is not sacrificing anything. Stupid filth.. We can’t let him win.

  17. BeccaM says:

The sad thing is I am no longer surprised at all at the depths to which the shambling ferret-abusing ass-whistle named Donald Trump will sink. He has no shame, no decency, no conscience, no empathy. He is a mentally ill monster.

  18. Chas Holman says:

Mr Trump is a ridiculous parody of his own self at this point.
