Trump just told every company in America to move jobs abroad

Hey corporate America, if you want some quick tax breaks, announce that you’re moving some jobs abroad.

Some quid pro quo just happened with Carrier, a company that claims to be keeping 1,000 jobs here in the US after Trump allegedly “negotiated” a deal with them.

Putting aside for a moment that Trump is a documented liar, so who knows whether the Carrier deal has any substance at all, Carrier must have gotten something in exchange for claiming that it will keep 1,000 jobs in America.

And that means every other American company now has an incentive to move jobs abroad, in the hopes that Donald Trump will give them something in return for publicly claiming they’re keeping the jobs here.

That creates an awful economic incentive that threatens to do the exact opposite of what Trump promised, keep jobs at home.

How long until Ivanka threatens daddy for a tax break, or else?

I’m a mfr’s rep with a sales office in my home. How much can I get for threatening to move across Lake Erie to Canada?

  2. Please! He folded like a cheap card table (bought from a bankrupt casino).

Remember the “Emperor’s New Clothes” ? The trick was getting you to watch what he wants you to watch and accepting his framing of what you see.

You play Cheeto’s game when you focus on his practiced misdirection. Your outrage is EXACTLY what he craves. It proves i his tiny mind that HE is the Ultimate player and all anyone else can do is kiss his orange ass or whine helplessly as he strides across his Domain.

Donald The Dinky will soon enough start to feel the pressure from those who wish him humbled. The hackers of Anonymous are very likely coding a Xmas to remember. Putin is certainly planning to demonstrate his ownership of his prize useful idiot. And without doubt there will be serious blowback from the Islamic World. And do not forget that there is a world full of Rich and Powerful people who consider Donny to be unacceptable.

tRUMP is now the highest value target in the world, and his adversaries all lust for his humiliation. Many proles are about to become collateral damage especially those that waste time watching the illusion instead of preparing for the chaos to come.
Stash some cash, repair your network of allies who can help and who will need your help, prepare to act and let reason NOT emotion guide your course.

And why wouldn’t they? It’d be bad business not to. Handing a company free government money is exactly the wrong way to address outsourcing. This victory tour is laughable and the media won’t even report the truth. Trump literally scored a touch down on the other guy’s side of the field, and is doing a gratuitous end zone dance anyway.

  6. He let the bank robbers go even after they killed more than 1/2 the hostages… then took a “victory” tour?

Trump was right. If this is “winning,” I’m already sick of it!

I mean really, how much more Trump “winning” can we afford?

This capitulation is 1,300 off-shored jobs alone!

  7. Houndentenor says:

Note: 1k jobs FOR NOW. There’s no guarantee they’ll keep those jobs in Indiana next year or the year after. My guess is they’ll come back for more government giveaways every year.

  8. Houndentenor says:

It’s coming anyway. We didn’t really fix what was wrong with our banking system after the last crisis but instead created banks that are bigger and failier than they were before. It’s going to be bad but this cronyism is just going to speed up and worsen what was coming anyway.

  9. Well, congrats to the Tea and Crackers Party – your man Trump just paid $7
million for Carrier to move 1,300 jobs to Mexico. That’s a real Trump-style landslide win, there!

  10. Shouldn’t the headlines be “Carrier offshores 1,000+ jobs”” since, you know, that’s what’s happening?

And, ironically for the Tea and Crackers party, the only reason it isn’t worse is because of… big government!

  11. MoonDragon says:

If he threatens UT, that affects jobs in multiple states and pisses off people in congress that he needs for other purposes.

  12. Filthy says:

I’m not embarrassed for Donald Trump, he lacks the capacity to be embarrassed by his buffoonery. I am, however, embarrassed for the people recorded on camera at his campaign stops.

These Trump supporters are looking more and more like the blind Germans who put Hitler into power.

Trump needed to rely on these large brain-washing rallies to garner up support. These racists cannot fathom that a black man has been so successful. Barack Obama has thrived in office.

Dow over 17,000, record corporate profits, 5% growth, best year for jobs since 1999, consumer confidence up, deficit down 60% in 2014, gas prices low, health insurance cheaper than ever ($85/month), car insurance cheaper than ever ($25/month from Insurance Panda), the 1% starting to be taxed more… all while republicans bleated about Benghazi took pointless votes to repeal the ACA, and did nothing for anybody except the top one percent.

It turns out that Obama is indeed “the adult in the room,” and yes, the Chess Master.

How could you elect a bigot that will set us back 50 years and erase all the progress that the Obama administration has worked so hard to achieve??

  13. MoonDragon says:

If one rewards unwanted behavior, expect that behavior to continue. Weren’t we warned about this? Oh yeah, if you feed stray animals, they’ll just keep coming back for more.

  14. mf_roe says:

‘massive depression’ is the least that is about to become too obvious to ignore by the ignorant masses. Read up on how the Germans committed moral treason by becoming Hitler’s Boot Lickers.

  15. woodroad34 says:

I keep looking at Trump and his cronyism in selecting these abominable people and Warren Harding kept popping into my head for some reason. Warren Harding also selected corporate criminals to his cabinet which led to the Teapot Dome scandal . I just keep thinking we’re heading towards a massive depression.

  16. d3clark says:

Before Thanksgiving, Trump said that he was going to save the 2k jobs there. Now he says he saved 1k. Carrier said that they’ll keep “nearly” 1k jobs in Indiana. This will help soothe Trump’s base, some of whom are really pissed. They’re angry over no special prosecutor, “collapse” of the wall, etc.

  17. fry1laurie says:

Yeah, the Great American Tax Abatement. About time we abolish the lot of them.

  18. Houndentenor says:

I’m not sure if it’s legal or not but companies have been doing this to states and counties for a very long time. Give them tax breaks or they’ll build the plant somewhere else. Build then new infrastructure and incentives or they’ll move the factor and jobs somewhere else. This has been going on for as long as I can remember. And yeah, it’s extortion.

  19. LA Goldenrod says:

Unlikely that this deal had much, if anything, to do with Trump. The state offered United Technologies a massive tax break so Trump and Pence (the Governor of Indiana) could make this announcement. The lede is buried in paragraph eight of the NYT story:

The state of Indiana also plans to give economic incentives to Carrier as part of the deal to stay, according to local officials.

That “also” is a lie. The state-level economic incentives are very likely only thing in play here.

The details, which nobody knows, matter. If there are no legally binding requirements to maintain a minimum level of staffing, you can expect the company to move all but a token workforce to Mexico as planned as soon as the publicity dies down. Also, if there are no legally binding requirements on the wages and benefits of whatever jobs remain in Indiana, you can expect that token workforce to consist of only the lowest-paid employees.

And if there is no legally binding claw back provision for the tax incentives, expect the company to shutter the plant and get rid of all those jobs anyway just as soon as they think they can do it with minimal bad PR.

  20. Demosthenes says:

For all we know, the Donald threatened the company’s defense affiliate’s federal government contracts in exchange for this purported concession. Is extortion like this lawful?
