Trump lashes out over losing popular vote, falsely claims millions voted illegally

In an astonishing claim that could argue for a recount of the entire vote nationwide, Donald Trump claimed this afternoon that “millions” over people “voted illegally” in the presidential election.

Trump added, in an impulsive series of tweets, that he would have won the popular vote had the alleged “millions” not voted illegally.

First the tweets, then a discussion:

trump populate vote fraud

The incoming President of the United States claims that we have such massive voter fraud that millions of people voted illegally — so many in fact that they switched the winner in the popular vote. That is one heck of a claim, and on its face could argue for a nationwide recount and audit of the vote. A recount to double-check the numbers; and an audit to ensure that the numbers are correct, e.g., there was no cheating, no hacking, etc.

Trump’s “millions of votes stolen” claim is also astounding in that it shows just how bothered Trump is by the fact that Hillary Clinton is now beating Trump in the popular vote by at least 2.2 million votes, or by 1.4 points. I ran the numbers yesterday, and Trump’s is the 3rd weakest election of a president in American history. And if you look at the raw numbers, the 2.2 million loss to Hillary, Trump’s is the worst “victory” ever.

To call Trump’s popular-vote loss to Hillary a lack of a mandate is an understatement. Hillary Clinton arguably received the mandate on November 8, while the public voted in record numbers to repudiate Donald Trump.

And that is why Trump is now openly freaking out on Twitter, as many of us predicted he would — just not this soon. Only 8 hours ago I predicted that if you want to get under Trump’s skin, question his legitimacy. Today’s tweets prove that I was right.

Trump likes to come across as a paragon of strength. But like all bullies, there’s a kernel of weakness and insecurity underlying and motivating the bluster. Trump’s life has been one long attempt to be accepted into the big-boys’ club. Trump desperately wants respect from the New York Times and New York’s wealthy elite, but Trump’s Jed Clampett tastes (you know foreign dignitaries are howling after visiting Trump’s Liberace-inspired Saudi palace in Trump Tower) and boorish personality (“pussy grabbing” comes to mind) means Trump will never be more than a pathetic, vulgar joke to those he pines for the most.

And that is why losing the popular vote by such a spectacular number has so unmoored Donald Trump that he is lashing out on Twitter, even after he won the election. It’s the ultimate slap in the face in what should be Trump’s ultimate conquest. If becoming the leader of the free world isn’t enough to wipe away Trump’s stench of mediocrity, then nothing else can.

The fact that Donald Trump will be a minority president, and the fact that even in winning Trump is a loser, is finally sinking in over at Trump Tower.

What was supposed to be funny about reposting a video clip that people have seen many times, and is completely irrelevant to the topic of discussion?

Ladies and gentleman, I deleted what I wrote previously responded to this colleagues comment because I had not understood what the colleague was talking about.
I have now learned, that you can look up someones Disqus profile, for example our colleague Jack Links, you can click on his Disqus profile.
It had never occurred to me to do that creepy thing before.
Now, up on Disqus, there is an option to let people see your previous posts on entirely un-related threads.
Okay. Now you. How dare you try to derail this discussion by going off topic. #1, looking up peoples Disqus profiles is weird. #2, why would I help you go off topic by bringing up things that would, by definition, be about other topics.
Thank you for responding to my comment.
You claim that I am talking big.
    Big how?
How is what I said big. You called me names too, insulting names. I have not insulted you. Are you calling me names because you’re scared? Tell me what you disagree with. If you have an opinion, you may tell us, you are allowed. Don’t be intimidated. Say what you’re trying to say.

Donald Trump may have won the election, but he lost the American people. Trump comes to office with no mandate.
To date, Trump is behind Hillary Clinton in the popular vote by over 2.2 million votes: the worst absolute margin of victory in all of American history. The runner-up? George Bush losing the popular vote by over 500,000 in 2000.
And it’s just as bad for Trump where it really counts, in his percent of the total vote. Trump lost the popular vote to Hillary by 1.63 points (1.63%), and growing. Hillary currently has 47.97% of the vote, while Trump only has 46.34%.
That means Donald Trump won the presidency by the 3rd worst margin in American history. Let that sink in a moment.

  7. JackLinks says:

Any reason you’d scared to post your previous comments? Don’t give me that old “shuck and jive” excuse that someone will track you down! Face it you’re a faceless coward that talks big, but never sticks around long enough to defend what they’ve posted!

  8. OHDisqusNSA666100 says:

It’s really pathetic, Democrats, trying to laugh. You Democrats should have ran the Monty Python skit for president, it would have had a better chance than Clinton. You Democrats should have rigged the primaries for your funny skit.

  9. OHDisqusNSA666100 says:

Clinton never admitted she didn’t win legit in the primary. She rigged the primary, the “Democratic” primary. Superdelegates. Day 1. Clinton: 500 Sanders 0. The day before the CA primary, LA times headline, “Clinton wins”. With the superdelegates not even voting for another month. Accusing Sanders of throwing chairs, DNC officials, egging on the crowd with fake voice-votes and taunting, then acting fearful for their lives.
Democrats only play hardball against liberals – never against conservatives – with the conservatives it’s lets be civil and lets play golf and lets make a deal to privatize social security.
    God damn the Democrats.
Now they want to come out and accuse, falsely, Bernie Sanders supporters of not voting for the lesser of two evils even though they did. With no data, just assertions.
    This is hard ball.
This is the hard ball that the Democrats won’t play against Republicans.
Clinton, with her $675,000 speeches to Goldman Sachs, an obvious “investment’ – not a campaign donation – a bribe – ostensibly for her effective speaking.
Clinton, the BIGGEST LOSER in American political history, who held the dive taking championship against Trump who had no sense at all that he could even win.
    F. The D. Party. FTDP.
You played with fire and you burned us all.
With your red-baiting, against WikiLeaks – who is going to unearth Trumps weaknesses now that you demonized all whistleblowers and red-baited them.
Clinton, with her war plans, her big regime change plans, her coups in Honduras and Ukraine, her invasion of Libya – all, disasters for the people in those countries, all – pointless from the USA point of view. Clinton, the worst criminal in US History who, if anyone must be tortured, or jailed – it must be CLINTON FIRST.

  10. OHDisqusNSA666100 says:

Barack Obama you October-TPP surprise, and Hillary Clinton you “Democratic” primary rigger, you superdelegate candidate, this is YOUR fault.
What good does it do to embarrass Trump. As soon as Trump is embarrassed, here comes a game changing “major catalyzing event”, just like with Bush.

  27. Moderator3 says:

    Buh bye Bill.

  28. How humiliating when your so-called “win” rests on the some technical process that was developed
at the same time – and by the same people – that put suspected witches on one side of the scale and a goose feather on the other. Sad!

He’ll never admit it wasn’t a legit win, even when America showed him that we hate him by giving a landslide victory of 2.5 million more votes going to his competitor. That’s gotta sting.

He won’t admit it… but yoiu can tell he definitely knows it.

  29. Why so defensive? I must have touched a nerve? People that legitimate win don’t need paragraphs of technical minutiae to convince themselves.

  30. woodroad34 says:

    Pretty much.

  31. Bill says:

“procrastinating” from trolling your false narratives or from dealing with the obvious meltdown your having over your defeat? I’m sorry to have kept you from dealing with reality, but somehow I think you prefer that

  32. Bill says:

Sorry Harold! You lost any and all credibility with your previous misstatements (lies) so nothing you say is of any value. Everything you claim has been nothing but self-serving lies. I realize that Hillary sanctioned lying to further the DNC cause, but America spoke LOUDLY when she was DEFEATED. Sadly, for you, his “almost win” makes him President Trump. Everything else you spout is utter and complete NONSENSE.

  33. quax says:

So sweet of you. Anyhow, fun procrastinating.

  34. Bill says:

Take it easy Hillbot…it’s obvious that I’m getting under your skin and I certainly don’t want to cause you any more mental anguish than you’ve already suffered. It will be alright…just go to your safe-place where the progressive agenda is welcome and Hillary rules trollville

  35. quax says:

Now, if you really read the DNC issued playbook you should be doing better, or are you still in training?

  36. Listen, your candidate is the one humiliated that he only gets in on an arcane technicality and America has proven we hate him by voting for Hillary in a landslide.

Of course he’s testy when anyone knows it’s not really legitimate. I’m sure he put his best effort into this “almost” win and declare bankruptcy soon like all his other ventures.

  37. Bill says:

I’ve already seen your “notes”…I read the DNC issued playbook so no thanks…high rent troll

  38. quax says:

You’re getting redundant. Don’t go full troll bot. That’s boring.

  39. 2-rump pump chump is all “millions in fraud!” And we’re all “wtf?” Then, when we find they stole it with fraudulent votes (maybe in the millions) – and we will – they’re gonna be all “wait, so now you think there’s fraud?”

  40. Bill says:

I’m sure you will…what else is there for a troll whose ideology has been rejected to do? Comedy gold!

  41. Bill says:

Poor little Harold! Born without a brain…maybe TrumpCare will cover that for you.

” didn’t legitimately win”, “He basically got in on a technicality, and even then he cheated”, “Losing by 2.5 million must be so bitter for you hags to swallow”

You’re really, really DESPERATE, aren’t you…Harold? Why else would you attempt to push such nonsense? Here’s a NEWSFLASH…he won legitimately, Hillary conceded the election, elections aren’t won by poplar vote, but by the electoral college, no cheating by Trump has been proven and increasing your “popular vote” totals by more than 500,000 votes may make you feel better, but it further illustrates your desperation. Remove the 2 most liberal states (CA and NY) from your #’s and see where it gets you. I do enjoy watching you meltdown though…funny stuff! Let me know when you stumble on the 60+ electoral votes you so desperately need.

  42. quax says:

You have a good Internet connection in your cardboard box. Let’s compare notes one of these days …

  43. quax says:

True, after all it’s perfectly legitimate that he would grease the approval process of his foreign building projects when talking with other heads of states (such as Argentina, India etc.) And that his hotel in DC has already been running promotions to foreign dignitaries is also totally normal. Nothing to see here folks.

  44. Bill says:

“Higher rent trolls”?…only if you’re comparing yourself to the poor homeless person living on the street in a cardboard box. You are too funny!

  45. That’s exactly what I tell Trump voters who can’t admit he didn’t legitimately win.

He basically got in on a technicality, and even then he cheated.

Losing by 2.5 million must be so bitter for you hags to swallow.

  46. quax says:

    I’ll be here all week.

  47. Bill says:

    It’s comedy gold!

  48. quax says:

This site used to have higher rent trolls. Anyhow, enjoy the show and your pyrrhic victory.

  49. quax says:

Well, of course you would like to watch.

  50. Bill says:

Watching your psychotic episode is even more fun.

  51. Bill says:

Blah, blah, blah…still nothing, but here’s a newsflash…his win was “bigly” enough. Watching your psychotic episode is a whole lot of fun though

  52. Bill says:

…and the “popular vote” matters how?

  53. Bill says:

Only the other party’s curtain, not your own. That’s already been proven by the DNC emails and your total disinterest in what was uncovered. It’s like how you brand anyone who disagrees with you as a “racist” while you completely ignore the real life racist in your own party, but say nothing about it. Robert Byrd (D-WV) was a clansmen and Grand Wizard, but let’s not talk about that. Read a few of his comment and maybe you’ll know what an actual racist looks and sounds like.

  54. Bill says:

“most corrupt administration in history”…it’s time to clean your crystal ball because your ASSUMPTIONS are just that. You’re right though…you “need to stay focused” on rebuilding your decimated party.

  55. quax says:

But who helps the poor slob who undermines the legitimacy of an election he actually won? His win was just not bigly enough. It clearly feels empty to the regrettable man.

  56. Bill says:

I absolutely love watching you meltdown…so thank you! All Trump supporters are “rednecks”, “too lazy to apply themselves getting a quality education”, “racists”..then you go on to spout misinformation about how great the country is doing. Funny stuff, but here’s a NEWSFLASH…YOU LOST, YOUR PARTY IS IN TOTAL DISARRAY, YOUR PROGRESSING IDEOLOGY HAS BEEN REJECTED AND YOUR GRASPING AT STRAWS TO MAKE SENSE OF IT. Sorry Sally!

  57. quax says:

You are missing the point. Driving Trump into an open psychotic episode is more fun.

  58. Bill says:

Is that like the “spoiled child screaming for attention” when they don’t get their way?

  59. Bill says:

So funny!…in a sad way. Good luck finding the 60 electoral votes you’re so desperately seeking

  60. Bill says:

Can’t even begin to imagine how invested someone must be in their party to utter such nonsense…seek help!

  61. Houndentenor says:

    That wasn’t really my point.

Let’s do the audit. I feel the same way about the NC Governor’s race. If you want a recount, then let’s do it. (You might have to pay for it but that’s covered in the case of Wisconsin.) I’m skeptical that anything will come of it but there are some anomalies that deserve investigation.

But that’s not what I was talking about. Trump tweets and we all react about it. Meanwhile there’s a LOT of shit that isn’t really being covered by the media. They can’t seem to keep more than one ball in the air at a time so while we’re talking about the recount (which is happening whether we talk about it or not) some serious news stories are NOT being discussed and need to be. We’re going to have four years of this. And it’s not like he’s all that clever with planning them when something happens he wants us distracted from. Please. There’s one of these little minor eruptions almost daily. The press would rather cover Trump’s tweet about something than an actual news story because actual news requires effort to cover. (See the movie Spotlight for a look at how much time and effort goes into a major news story.) But Trump’s latest assholery is easy to cover and you don’t even have to get off your lazy ass to comment about it so that’s what they’ll focus on, meanwhile the story that his foundation is a sham will go undiscussed. And we’re letting him get away with that. (And also claim the media is unfair to them??? Please, he played them like a dime store violin all fucking year long and still is.)

  62. Republicans always have the “tell” of complaining about something, because they are doing it – illegitimate elections and voter fraud, etc.

It’s not “projection”, at least not only. It’s “inoculation” because all this time Trump has been saying, “it’s rigged” (while rigging it), so when we question the illicit outcome the
republicans can say, “oh, so now you’re suddenly claiming it when you didn’t win?”

One can only imagine what his latest “millions of fraudulent votes” actually means.

  63. Demosthenes says:

So the Donald agrees with the Green Party’s recount request because of all the (nonexistent) voting fraud?

  64. Sally M. says:

Here’s the thing about Donald Trump supporters. These rednecks finally get the wake up call in their 20’s-30’s when they see the world is passing them by. When it actually mattered they were to lazy to apply themselves getting a quality education, now they see their high school friend driving new cars and buying houses. They think they have been cheated by the system when they really just let themselves down. Racism is a convenient scapegoat to explain why they are a failure.

Unfortunately for them, under Obama, AMERICA IS DOING BETTER THAN EVER. RECORD unemployment numbers, legalized gay marriage, 5% growth, best year for jobs since 1999, consumer confidence up, deficit down 60% in 2014, gas prices low, health insurance cheaper than ever ($85/month), car insurance cheaper than ever ($25 per month from Insurance Panda), the 1% starting to be taxed more!

The rednecks are against higher education, which the root cause of ignorance for adults. Their policies to dismantle education and further increase ignorance is how you destroy the greatest country on earth from within.

  65. Badgerite says:

On what? There is nothing now more important than the integrity of the system and if it is in question we need to find that out. He seems to be twitterizing that the system is “rigged”.
Again. So let’s do an audit. At least in those states that were close. Given the fact that he lost the popular vote by millions, the argument of a “mandate” for him or the GOP is undercut.
On every level, this was a close election. The one level where that was not the case is the popular vote which is supposed to represent the national will more than anything else. So.
I don’t see any problem with looking more closely.

  66. Badgerite says:

He hasn’t even been attending intelligence briefings while Mike Pence has. which tells you just how involved he actually plans to be. He’s mostly going to be shilling for his businesses while he plays president and Pence and Bannon will run things. Cashing in. Empty Suit Elect.

  67. Badgerite says:

Audit would be better. And what the Trump Monster Elect is saying actually argues for an audit. A recount just recounts the votes as tabulated. Which might uncover some errors.
An audit is much more thorough as it looks for and takes into account possible errors in or tampering with the systems used to count the votes. And given that we know the Russians hacked into voter databases in some states that would be a concern because when a foreign power does this it constitutes a profoundly provocative act that should raise alarm bells.
And the trump-elect has now claimed that there was “massive voter fraud”, which also argues for a systemic review. AUDIT THE VOTE. I think our system needs to go back to a paper trail of ballots in order to ensure that no tampering with the integrity of the system occurs and if it does it can be rectified. And deal with the anachronism of the Electoral College but that is a separate issue from this. It is about time this country dealt with the vulnerabilities in our system in a way that seeks to ensure the integrity of the vote rather than a specific political outcome. Apparently the trump-elect is on board with that so let’s get at it

  68. Houndentenor says:

Not really. If progressive were good at much of anything Republicans wouldn’t have the WH, both houses of Congress, the Supreme Court and total control of 23 states. Democrats have control of 5. That’s not being good at anything. We need to stop feeling smug and get to work.

  69. Arthur Conrad says:

One thing progressives are good at is multi-tasking.

We will never stop looking behind the curtain.

  70. quax says:

Well at this point he isn’t running an administration yet, just assembling a house of horrors cabinet.

  71. quax says:

Since he now agrees that the election was rigged we should have a complete recount, or even better a do-over to err on the side of caution.

  72. woodroad34 says:

The psychopath’s response. he’s that spoiled child screaming for attention at every adult party. He should have been left home and under the gaze of a very stern nanny.

  73. Houndentenor says:

Did we find his Achille’s Heel or has he found ours? His constant distraction from more important matters will keep us chasing down rabbit holes while he runs the most corrupt administration in history and gets away with it. We need to stay focused.
