NYT: Trump campaign had repeated contacts with Russian intelligence

The New York Times reports that members of Donald Trump’s campaign, and other Trump associates, had repeated contacts with Russian intelligence during the presidential campaign.

These intercepted phone calls came to light around the same time US officials began to become concerned about Russia’s attempt to hack their way into the American election.

If this were Hillary Clinton, her presidency would already be over.

We have Donald Trump just last week suggesting that US service members and presidents are “killers” as bad anything Vladimir Putin has done.

We have Trump campaign staff going to Moscow and criticizing American democracy while praising Russia, and losing their job as a result.

We have Trump’s campaign manager Paul Manafort being forced to step down following increasing revelations about his ties to Moscow-backed autocrats in Ukraine.

We have Trump’s National Security Adviser Michael Flynn, who led a standing ovation for Vladimir Putin a year ago, fired last night for his secret conversations with top Russian officials during the transition finally becoming too big a scandal for Trump to handle.

And now we have the revelation that Trump campaign staff, and other Trump colleagues, were having repeated contacts with Russian intelligence during the election.

We are seriously at the point of wondering whether our president has committed treason. Whether he is a knowing agent of a foreign power, and for all intents and purposes a foreign “enemy” of the United States. There is no other way to frame this.

Hillary Clinton would have been facing impeachment charges at this point.

I just don’t even know what to say, this is so bad. And the implications are so far-reaching. The good news, if you can call it that, is that a growing number of Republicans in Congress are calling for an investigation of more and more parts of the Russia story, including the Michael Flynn imbroglio. And this NYT story is only going to add to those concerns.

At this point, at the very least, we must have an independent bipartisan commission set up to investigate Russia’s penetration of our government, and whether our president is a traitor.

Who owns Donald Trump? Let’s not forget we have Trump’s business empire funded to a substantial degree by Russians http://pressnews247.com

Good questions. I have a suspicion that what Putin has that actually has President So Called and his people completely compromised by Russian intelligence is on tape, is verbal and shows a criminal intent, an agreement as it were, to collude in helping a foreign power put into government people who supported their geopolitical goals, especially in Europe. This is criminal. I believe they traded policy for power. Some trade away our nations security for money. Some for grand ambitions. For trump himself, he is so easily manipulated that money and delusions of grandeur would be sufficient. But those around him are of the grand ambitions crowd. And they are “guilty as hell”. They believe that what will be good for Vladimir Putin will be good for furthering their “grand ambitions”. That means dismantling of NATO and any mechanism of resistance to Russian imperialism and aspirations to reconstitute the territorial outlines, as closely as possible, of the old Soviet Union and the Warsaw Pact.
It means the compromising of the intelligence capability of the United States and the furthering of Russian intelligence capabilities in the United States. I believe one of the things the CIA already has evidence of is the trump campaign providing information to Russian intelligence as to the Russian emigre community here in America. Given what has happened to Russian dissidents, both in Russia and abroad, who opposed Putin, this has to be deeply concerning for people like Gary Kasparov and Masha Gessen. And many others.
This is not about “policy disputes” anymore. This is about the fabric of our American democracy being shredded from within. And it is treason.

John, will anything force the R’s to actually appoint an independent prosecutor? Can we expect the tapes to leak if they do not?

    “Lock him [Trump] up!”

Soon to be a rallying cry of patriotic Americans.

That’s the root of the problem — Trump went in literally not seeing the difference between business and government and now can’t deal with the fact that he can’t run the government the way he does the Trump Organization. And he is undoubtedly into the Russians up to his tiny little cojones, so they are going to have no American interference in their attempts to destabilize the West and re-annex Eastern Europe — unless they go after Western Asia first..

Who owns Donald Trump? Let’s not forget we have Trump’s business empire funded to a substantial degree by Russians. According to popular vote loser Donald Trump’s own children, most of their money in recent years has come from Russia. That could mean Russian oligarchs own a stake in Trump’s businesses worth hundreds of millions of dollars. I can’t figure out which movie will get a sequel first: The Big Short or The Manchurian Candidate. It’s gonna be close!
